Prenatal Massage — relief and support throughout pregnancy

Pregnancy is a significant challenge for a woman's body — changing weight, a shifting centre of gravity, and hormonal changes cause tension, pain, and discomfort. Prenatal Massage is a safe and natural way to relieve these issues.

Regular massage during pregnancy reduces levels of the stress hormone cortisol, lowers anxiety, and improves sleep quality. Studies show that women who receive massage experience an easier birth and recover faster.

How does Pregnancy Massage work at Osso Massage?

We offer Prenatal Massage in two ways:

On a mat (Thai technique) — the massage is done on the floor on a mat, through your clothing. Stretches and various positions with cushions and a bean bag chair are used. Especially good if you prefer to keep your clothes on and want the benefit of stretching.

On the table — a classical-style massage on a special table using massage oil. Suitable for those who prefer a more traditional massage style.

Our massage therapists are trained to work with pregnant women and adapt each session according to the trimester, physical condition, and specific issues.

Note! In the first trimester, we recommend shorter sessions, and rather for expectant mothers who had an active lifestyle before pregnancy. We strongly recommend consulting your midwife or doctor before the massage.

FAQ – Frequently asked questions

  • Pregnant women feeling back pain and pelvic tension — changing weight and a shifting centre of gravity put strain on the back, pelvis, and legs. Massage safely relieves this tension.
  • Pregnant women with swollen, heavy legs — especially in the third trimester, when circulation is under strain. Massage stimulates lymph flow and brings relief.
  • Anxious and stressed expectant mothers — pregnancy is an emotionally challenging time. Massage lowers cortisol levels and helps calm the mind.
  • Those who aren’t sleeping well — a tense body disrupts sleep. Regular massage improves sleep quality.
  • Those preparing for childbirth — in the third trimester, massage helps relax the body and mind and prepares the muscles for a smoother delivery.
  • First-time massage clients — our therapists explain everything before the session and adapt the techniques exactly to your trimester and how you’re feeling. No prior experience needed.

Prenatal Massage can be done from the first trimester onward, though we recommend shorter sessions in the early months. From the second trimester on, massage is suitable for most pregnant women if the pregnancy is progressing normally. We always recommend consulting your midwife or doctor before the first session.

Yes, massage is safe for a normal pregnancy. Our massage therapists are trained to work with pregnant women and use only techniques suitable during pregnancy. Certain pressure points and positions are avoided that could be unsuitable during pregnancy.

Massage on a mat (Thai technique) is done through your clothing, using stretches and cushions — suitable for those who prefer to keep their clothes on. Massage on the table is done with massage oil — suitable for those who prefer a traditional massage style. Both are safe for a normal pregnancy.

From the second trimester, we recommend 2–3 times a month. In the third trimester, you may increase frequency to once a week if back pain or swelling is more pronounced. In the first trimester, once a month is enough.

The session lasts 45–60 minutes, depending on the trimester and how you’re feeling. In the first trimester, we recommend shorter sessions (45 min). From the second trimester on, a 60-minute session works well.

Yes! Regular Prenatal Massage helps relax the body and mind, which supports preparation for childbirth. A relaxed body and lower stress levels help the birth process go more smoothly. Massage also lowers anxiety and creates better mental readiness. Several studies suggest that women who receive regular massage experience an easier birth.
